How Can I Find a Lost Device When It's in Silent Mode?

I lost my tablet somewhere in my house and have been searching for hours. It's an Android device, which seems to have Wi-Fi enabled (responds to pings), but doesn't seem to react to cloud-based messages.
Please see below a few ways by which you can locate your device –

airodump-ng app – This app will help in getting a signal reception especially if a compatible Wi-Fi card and a Linux distro are installed. The signal reception on the device can be seen as PWR (in decibels). Using this, you can keep ringing the device and see an airodump-ng screen update a lot faster with the MAC address of the device. Increasing the PWR and moving around your house with your laptop will help you in locating your device.

Homing Cone – A cone built by using a brass mesh will help in blocking radio signals. By holding the phone towards the middle of the cone all signals will be blocked. In case you receive a signal then it is probably being received from the open area of the cone.

Ethernet & More – If your device has a signal strength measurement on it then you can use DD-WRT to locate it. For more information regarding the DD-WRT see http://www.dd-wrt.co.in/wiki/index.php/What_is_DD-WRT%3F This is how it works:-Take a long Ethernet cord.
-Plug its one end into the router and the other into your cable modem, Internet connection, etc.
-Keep moving the router around your house while seeing where you get the strongest signal.

Hmm. A bit rough, but I suppose it's moderately effective. I do, however, have an alternative which is a bit easier.

1. Buy an Android device.
2. Don't lose it…!!!! :D:D
